North Lakes Fire & Rescue - Rescue Crew
The North Lakes Fire Department formed a Rescue Crew in 2008 with the main focus of vehicle extrication. This dedicated crew doubled up on monthly meetings, and for quite a while met every week, to prepare themselves to respond to vehicle accidents that required extrication. In 2009 they achieved that goal and became available for calls.
The crew also has the ability to respond with a Rescue Toboggan to pick injured people up from remote snowmobile trails. This is very useful in our area not only for snowmobile trails but for the remote areas that have no vehicle access in the winter, such as Square Lake.
The members are continually expanding their knowledge to improve their response. Recently the entire crew was trained to the level of Unlicensed First Responder. We also have 1 EMT-Paramedic, 1 EMT-Basic and 3 members are currently taking the EMT-Basic course.
Vehicle Accidents
For vehicle accidents, the North Lakes Crews respond with at least 2 apparatus. The first one is Tanker 1, housed in Cross Lake. This truck contains the JAWs unit as well as other tools needed for extrication including rescue struts, sawz-all, traffic cones, and much more. The other one is Pickup 1. This truck carries medical supplies and some traffic control equipment. Click on a picture to view a bigger version.

Snowmobile Accidents / Rescues
For snowmobile accidents / rescues, the North Lakes Crews respond with one or both of the Rescue Toboggans. The one housed in Cross Lake is a "Rescue Boggan". This model has independent suspension for a smooth ride, has a seat for the EMT to sit and monitor the patient and allows the patient to be placed out of the wind.
