North Lakes Smoke Detector ProgramLine

The projected cost of warming our homes this winter has many families looking for alternative heating methods. Along with increased heating options, there are additional hazards associated with their use.

North Lakes Fire Department feels that it is important that people don't disregard the hazards that they can cause. It is for this reason that the organization wishes to provide low-income residents of Cross Lake, Madawaska Lake, and Sinclair with an opportunity to receive a smoke detector, professional installation, and safety information about wood/pellet burning appliances at no cost to homeowners.

The application process involves completing a simple form which will allow two firefighters to go to the home and install the detector. According to Chief Darren Woods, the entire process, which will take but a few minutes, will allow the department to ensure that residents are protected and understand how to test and maintain these alarms.

Chief Woods stated that this program was made possible with the help of Power of Prevention, Cary Medical Center, State Farm Insurance and the Home Safety Council.

Anyone interested in signing up for this program can get a sign up form from any North Lakes Firefighter, on our website at www.northlakesfireandrescue.org, or by contacting the Fire Chief at 493-4328.
